Medical Examinations

Klamath-Lake CARES’ medical providers are specially trained in evaluating children under the age of 18-years when there are concerns of abuse or neglect. Every assessment includes a comprehensive head-to-toe exam to evaluate the child’s health and wellbeing. The medical exams identify any medical issues that need attention and may provide reassurance to the child regarding any concerns they might have about their body.

Throughout the assessment, considerations are made to ensure the child’s comfortable and has control over their exam and body. If disclosures are made during the medical examination, the child may participate in a forensic interview following the exam. The medical provider uses the information gathered during the medical exam, and from the forensic interview, to make diagnoses and guide recommendations for caregivers and partner agencies.
